Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Joel Bakan September 3, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s continuing efforts, NOT broadcast live from CFUV Radio in the basement of the Student Union Building at the University of Victoria, but emanating live-to-tape via Skype from our home-based … studios on this date, September 3rd, 2020.

Way back near the turn of the century, when the unbridled power of transnational capital and its enabling mechanism the modern corporation threatened to destroy democracy, Vancouver-based legal scholar and filmmaker, Joel Bakan released, ‘The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power’. His book was accompanied by the now classic documentary film, ‘THE CORPORATION’ a collaboration of the author and filmmakers Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott.

Now, more than fifteen years later, Bakan has revisited the topic with his newly released book, ‘The New Corporation: How “Good” Corporations Are Bad for Democracy’, and teamed up again with fellow director, Jennifer Abbott on a tandem film, ‘The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel’.

Today, Joel Bakan and circling the dread gyre back to the lair of the Corporation.
