He&#039;s spent the last several years campaigning to put an end to the Atlantic Salmon fish farming enterprises widely believed to be behind the disappearance of wild Pacific Salmon on the coast.

Damien Gillis in the first half.

Gilad Atzmon is an accomplished jazz and pop musician, whose music has been internationally recognized, earning him among other honours, the BBC album of the year for his release, &#039;Exile.&#039; His latest album is, &#039;In Loving Memory of America.’ Gilad is also a writer of fiction, and a political and philosophical essayist. His novels, &#039;Guide to the Perplexed&#039; and &#039;My One And Only Love&#039; have been translated into 24 languages. Atzmon is an ex-patriot Israeli, and veteran IDF soldier, whose writing about the ongoing occupation of Palestine, and the nature of the forces behind that occupation has earned him both praise and condemnation.

Gilad Atzmon and revisioning our past for a future peace in the second half.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV radio broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to keep us apprised of events from Victoria&#039;s streetz and beyond. But first, Damien Gillis recruiting for a second War in the Woods in Clayoquot Sound.

<itunes:summary>This week: Amy Miller is a Montreal-based documentary filmmaker and activist whose film, &#039;Myths for Profit: Canada&#039;s Role in Industries of War and Peace&#039; has featured in festivals from Calgary to Australia. Amy is also a journalist, reporting for Free Speech Radio News, The Dominion online newspaper, and the Independent Media Centre in Montreal. She was in Toronto reporting on the G20 when the Pigs turned on her, as they did many journalists, and took her into custody for the crime of revealing the myth of Canadian democracy.

Amy Miller in the first half.

And; Jaggi Singh is a name familiar to any who have followed or participated in the social peace and justice movement in Canada over the last couple of decades. He was famously grabbed off the streets of Quebec City during another G20 confab back in 2001, but this time his arrest was a more gentile affair. Jaggi Singh turned himself into police when he discovered there was an arrest warrant out for him; it&#039;s an order charging him as a conspirator against the laws of the land. Jaggi&#039;s first court appearance was today, and at time of writing he is still in custody. We&#039;re not sure if Jaggi will be able to appear in the second half, but failing that, someone from his support group will.

The case for the arrest of Jaggi Singh in the second half.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us with her take on newz both local and less so at the bottom of the hour. But first, Amy Miller documenting the flowering of Canadian fascism.

Ken O&#039;Keefe in the first half.

British Columbia and Ontario awoke Canada Day with the government&#039;s hand sunk deeper into their pockets. Yes, the Harmonized Sales Tax, or HST, went into effect July 1st. It&#039;s a tax hike for the majority of us, even as government services decline, or are cut entirely.

    <itunes:summary>Victoria&#039;s Neish Receives a Hero&#039;s Welcome
by C. L. Cook
Recently released human rights worker, Kevin Neish told the press tonight 16 people were killed the night Israeli commandos attacked the Mavi Marmara off Gaza in the small hours of Monday. Until now, Israel and the western media have reported only 9 were killed.

Listen. Hear.

Neish says he say evidence of what he described as &#039;execution-style&#039; wounds on some of the victims deposited in the medical emergency alcove near his assigned spot in the stern of the Marmara. He also said he had smuggled out photographic evidence of the wounds his dead colleagues received by removing the memory chip, before disposing of his camera. He said people found with cameras and mobile phone cameras had their devices confiscated and were themselves strip-searched by the IDF soldiers.

Neish promised a news conference Monday were he would better be able to speak to the many questions yet to be answered about the fatal incident at sea after resting.

An enthusiastic crowd of supporters waited in Victoria International Airports austere Arrivals foyer Saturday night for the return of the local human rights hero. Strains of sixties protest anthem, &#039;We Shall Not be Overcome&#039; greeted befuddled fellow passengers emerging the domestic flight from Toronto delivering Kevin Neish home from a six-day ordeal that saw him in the middle of the now infamous raid against the Gaza freedom proponents.

Acting as peace observers, essentially putting themselves between aid shipments destined for the besieged Gaza Strip, the hope is Israel would not dare harming the more than 700 internationals taking part in the six boat flotilla, and allow the foods, medical equipment, and building materials into the isolated enclave. Israel bombed the Gaza Strip for 22 days over Christmas 2008 and into January, and since has policed strictly a broad embargo against Gaza that was deemed by United Nations&#039; rapporteur Richard Goldstone &quot;collective punishment.&quot; That designation makes what Israel is doing in Gaza a crime under international law.

For its part, Israel claims its &quot;self-defense&quot; is paramount and justifies the siege and its enforcement.</itunes:summary>

Diana Beresford-Kroeger in the first half.

Over the weekend, the Free Gaza Flotilla attempted again to penetrate the illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military. Several attempts to get aid into Gaza by sea have been made over the last two years, but all were violently intercepted. This time, nine ships began the odyssey, but it seems none have made it through. Victoria-based human rights activist Kevin Neish was on board one of the ships, and we had arranged to discuss events live as they unfold, but as of writing all contact has been lost. Jon Elmer is a Canadian journalist and photo-journalist based in Bethlehem.

Jon Elmer and the fate of the Free Gaza Flotilla in the second half.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to keep us apprised of newz from Victoria streets. But first, Diana Beresford-Kroeger and a human need to get back to the forest.

Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca. He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com.

<itunes:summary>This week; It&#039;s a continuation of a growing trend in Greenwashing that has seen the undermining of grassroots efforts to halt the corporate destruction for profit of our environment by once respected environmental organizations now grown beyond their own grassroots.

Dr. Glen Barry is the president and founder of Ecological Internet, or EI, a U.S.-based effort to address global environmental policy, and communicate the severity of the current ecological crises erupting around the world. EI specializes in the construction of environmental portals for information retrieval and original analysis. Some of its participants include: Climate Ark, Forests.org, EcoEarth.Info, Water Conserve, Ocean Conserve, Rainforest Portal, and New Earth Rising. Glen Barry in the first half.

And; Victoria-based human-rights activist, Kevin Neish has set sail with the Free Gaza Flotilla, a collection of ships and activists from around the world trying to impress on Israel and the rest of the planet the unacceptable destruction that nation wrecks on the peoples of Palestine in the form of bullets and one of the longest blockades in modern history. <description>&lt;p&gt;This week; It&amp;#039;s a continuation of a growing trend in Greenwashing that has seen the undermining of grassroots efforts to halt the corporate destruction for profit of our environment by once respected environmental organizations now grown beyond their own grassroots.

Kevin is in the Mediterranean now, and we&amp;#039;ll talk to him as he readies for the trip Israel has already warned it will not let pass. Kevin Neish and facing the Levantine pyrates in the second half.

The government wasn&#039;t in this sunny May Saturday afternoon, but the message delivered by those thousands is unmistakable, and it would take a very deaf regime not to hear it loud and clear.

The throng would have the largely foreign, mainly Norwegian, fish farm corporations to remove their Atlantic Salmon pens out of British Columbia waters in toto.

Now!

The federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), who is ultimately responsible for the well-being of the marine environment, has proved as ineffective dealing with the present danger posed the indigenous Salmon populations here as have their provincial government counterparts.

For whatever the reason, today&#039;s demonstration was a mass declaration any government ignores at its peril. - ape

<itunes:summary>This week: You may remember the War in the Woods back in the 90&#039;s, where hundreds of activists put their bodies on the line and were arrested to stop the destruction of that gem on the west side of Vancouver Island. All&#039;s well that ends well though, and the Clayoquot, armed with its U.N. recognition is now saved for posterity; or is it?

Glen Scott is a Tofino-based writer and newly minted environmental activist working to increase awareness of the threat of mining on Catface Mountain, in the heart of the U.N.&#039;s World Biosphere Reserve. Glen Scott in the first half.

And; Kevin Neish is a long-time activist who has borne witness to elections in South America, and served as a peace observer to protect threatened populations there. He&#039;s also been to the West Bank to bear witness, with the International Solidarity Movement, of living conditions suffered under Israeli occupation in Palestine. He has been invited to participate in the upcoming convoy, and joins us in the second half.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with the goings on going on on Victoria&#039;s streets at the bottom of the hour.
