He's spent the last several years campaigning to put an end to the Atlantic Salmon fish farming enterprises widely believed to be behind the disappearance of wild Pacific Salmon on the coast. Gilad Atzmon is an accomplished jazz and pop musician, whose music has been internationally recognized, earning him among other honours, the BBC album of the year for his release, 'Exile.' His latest album is, 'In Loving Memory of America.' Gilad is also a writer of fiction, and a political and philosophical essayist. His novels, 'Guide to the Perplexed' and 'My One And Only Love' have been translated into 24 languages. Atzmon is an ex-patriot Israeli, and veteran IDF soldier, whose writing about the ongoing occupation of Palestine, and the nature of the forces behind that occupation has earned him both praise and condemnation. This week: Amy Miller is a Montreal-based documentary filmmaker and activist whose film, 'Myths for Profit: Canada's Role in Industries of War and Peace' has featured in festivals from Calgary to Australia. Amy is also a journalist, reporting for Free Speech Radio News, The Dominion online newspaper, and the Independent Media Centre in Montreal. She was in Toronto reporting on the G20 when the Pigs turned on her, as they did many journalists, and took her into custody for the crime of revealing the myth of Canadian democracy. Amy Miller in the first half. And; Jaggi Singh is a name familiar to any who have followed or participated in the social peace and justice movement in Canada over the last couple of decades. He was famously grabbed off the streets of Quebec City during another G20 confab back in 2001, but this time his arrest was a more gentile affair. Jaggi Singh turned himself into police when he discovered there was an arrest warrant out for him; it's an order charging him as a conspirator against the laws of the land. Jaggi's first court appearance was today, and at time of writing he is still in custody. We're not sure if Jaggi will be able to appear in the second half, but failing that, someone from his support group will. The case for the arrest of Jaggi Singh in the second half. Ken is a former member of the United States Marine Corps, who renounced his American citizenship in protest of his country's policies. He was also aboard the Mavi Marmara when it was attacked in the pre-dawn hours of May 31st, 2010. Ken was arrested, along with the roughly seven hundred human rights activists on the Mavi Marmara, charged, incarcerated, and brutalized while in Israeli custody. Ken O'Keefe in the first half. Victoria's Neish Receives a Hero's Welcome by C. L. Cook Recently released human rights worker, Kevin Neish told the press tonight 16 people were killed the night Israeli commandos attacked the Mavi Marmara off Gaza in the small hours of Monday. Until now, Israel and the western media have reported only 9 were killed. Listen. Hear. Neish says he say evidence of what he described as 'execution-style' wounds on some of the victims deposited in the medical emergency alcove near his assigned spot in the stern of the Marmara. He also said he had smuggled out photographic evidence of the wounds his dead colleagues received by removing the memory chip, before disposing of his camera. He said people found with cameras and mobile phone cameras had their devices confiscated and were themselves strip-searched by the IDF soldiers. Neish promised a news conference Monday were he would better be able to speak to the many questions yet to be answered about the fatal incident at sea after resting. An enthusiastic crowd of supporters waited in Victoria International Airports austere Arrivals foyer Saturday night for the return of the local human rights hero. Strains of sixties protest anthem, 'We Shall Not be Overcome' greeted befuddled fellow passengers emerging the domestic flight from Toronto delivering Kevin Neish home from a six-day ordeal that saw him in the middle of the now infamous raid against the Gaza freedom proponents. Acting as peace observers, essentially putting themselves between aid shipments destined for the besieged Gaza Strip, the hope is Israel would not dare harming the more than 700 internationals taking part in the six boat flotilla, and allow the foods, medical equipment, and building materials into the isolated enclave. Israel bombed the Gaza Strip for 22 days over Christmas 2008 and into January, and since has policed strictly a broad embargo against Gaza that was deemed by United Nations' rapporteur Richard Goldstone "collective punishment." That designation makes what Israel is doing in Gaza a crime under international law. For its part, Israel claims its "self-defense" is paramount and justifies the siege and its enforcement.

Between 250 and 300 Victorians came out to pay respects to the nine confirmed peace activists killed this week aboard the Mavi Marmara, the Turkish flagged Free Gaza Flotilla vessel attacked by Israel's navy. It was especially poignant to the people attending, many of whom are personally acquainted with Kevin Neish, a human rights proponent on the Marmara at the time of the attack.

Ontario's premier, Dalton McGuinty says he will visit Israel later this month, while Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu is slated to to make the first visit of a sitting Israeli prime minister to Canada in more than sixteen years. Thousands turned out in Victoria today, assembled at the Legislature Buildings, seat of power for the Canadian province of British Columbia. The government wasn't in this sunny May Saturday afternoon, but the message delivered by those thousands is unmistakable, and it would take a very deaf regime not to hear it loud and clear. The throng would have the largely foreign, mainly Norwegian, fish farm corporations to remove their Atlantic Salmon pens out of British Columbia waters in toto. Now! The federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), who is ultimately responsible for the well-being of the marine environment, has proved as ineffective dealing with the present danger posed the indigenous Salmon populations here as have their provincial government counterparts. This week: You may remember the War in the Woods back in the 90's, where hundreds of activists put their bodies on the line and were arrested to stop the destruction of that gem on the west side of Vancouver Island. All's well that ends well though, and the Clayoquot, armed with its U.N. recognition is now saved for posterity; or is it? Glen Scott is a Tofino-based writer and newly minted environmental activist working to increase awareness of the threat of mining on Catface Mountain, in the heart of the U.N.'s World Biosphere Reserve. Glen Scott in the first half. And; Kevin Neish is a long-time activist who has borne witness to elections in South America, and served as a peace observer to protect threatened populations there. He's also been to the West Bank to bear witness, with the International Solidarity Movement, of living conditions suffered under Israeli occupation in Palestine. He has been invited to participate in the upcoming convoy, and joins us in the second half.
