Ape Goes to David Barsamian November 18, 2010

Date 2010-11-19

Esteemed radio man, David Barsamian came out for a CFUV Radio fundraiser at the University of Victoria's David Lam Auditorium tonight, speaking with passion and eloquence on a range of topics spanning the globe and his thirty years of political and intellectual engangement. He appeared earlier this week on Gorilla Radio, where I introduced him thusly. David Barsamian is the multi-award winning director of Alternative Radio, which airs weekly across North America and beyond, (including right here at CFUV every Wednesday afternoon at 1:00pm pacific time) and remains an entirely independent voice of reason and humanity, an island of sanity in a toss'd sea of shlock jocks, puerile morning "mad men," and aspiring dime store mass media demagogues. That interview is here: http://www.pacificfreepress.com/news/1/7360-gorilla-radio-with-chris-cook-david-barsamian-janine-bandcroft-nov-15-2010.html

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Howard Zinn Apr. 14, 2008

Date 2008-04-18

History is ended the orators for America's new century extolled upon George W. Bush's assumption of the throne in January 2001. In some ways the notion has proved correct; history will of course continue 'til comeuppance day, but the nature of the nation is changed. Today, America represents not a bastion of individual freedoms and expression, the protector and purveyor of Democracy, but a rapacious agent of corporate greed and criminality around the planet, a law unto itself: An empire. Howard Zinn is an American historian, educator, playwright, activist and author. Among his more than twenty books published are: 'Artists in Times of War,' 'The Cold War and the University,' 'Declarations of Indepedence,' 'Disobedience and Democracy,' the best-selling 'A People's History of the United States,' and his autobiography, 'You Can't be Neutral on a Moving Train,' (also adapted as a documentary film). Zinn is the recipient of numerous awards, citations, and accolades for his decades-long dedication to the People's cause, including: the Courage of Conscience Award, the Thomas Merton, Eugene Debs, and Upton Sinclair Awards, the American Historical Association's Beveridge Prize for best English-language book on American History for his debut title, 'La Guardia in Congress,' and the Haven's Center Award for Lifetime Contribution to Critical Scholarship. His theatrical works include: 'Daughter of Venus,' 'Emma,' and 'Marx in Soho.' Howard Zinn's newest book release is, 'A People's History of American Empire.' Howard Zinn in the first half.
