Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Dave Lindorff, Kevin Neish, Janine Bandcroft Monday June 7, 2010

Date 2010-06-08

This week: Of BP and the Gulf oil disaster, This Can't Be Happening's Dave Lindorff writes; "Even as BP’s blown well a mile beneath the surface in the Gulf of Mexico continues to gush forth an estimated 70,000 barrels of oil a day into the sea, and the fragile wetlands along the Gulf begin to get coated with crude, which is also headed into the Gulf Stream for a trip past the Everglades and on up the East Coast, the company is demanding that Canada lift its tight rules for drilling in the icy Beaufort Sea portion of the Arctic Ocean." Dave Lindorff is a long-time journalist and author, who is described at his website, 'This Can't be Happening' as "a quixotic one-man effort to afflict the powerful." Dave Lindorff in the first half. Home from a six-day ordeal that saw him in the middle of the now infamous raid against the Gaza freedom proponents, Kevin Neish on surviving Israel in the second half. And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us from sunny Gabriola Island at the bottom of the hour where the annual National Campus and Community Radio Association confab began today. But first, Dave Lindorff on the audacious greed of BP screwing the planet's environment. Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca. He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com. Ape Meets Kevin Neish at Victoria International Airport June 5, 2010

Date 2010-06-06

Victoria's Neish Receives a Hero's Welcome by C. L. Cook Recently released human rights worker, Kevin Neish told the press tonight 16 people were killed the night Israeli commandos attacked the Mavi Marmara off Gaza in the small hours of Monday. Until now, Israel and the western media have reported only 9 were killed. Listen. Hear. Neish says he say evidence of what he described as 'execution-style' wounds on some of the victims deposited in the medical emergency alcove near his assigned spot in the stern of the Marmara. He also said he had smuggled out photographic evidence of the wounds his dead colleagues received by removing the memory chip, before disposing of his camera. He said people found with cameras and mobile phone cameras had their devices confiscated and were themselves strip-searched by the IDF soldiers. Neish promised a news conference Monday were he would better be able to speak to the many questions yet to be answered about the fatal incident at sea after resting. An enthusiastic crowd of supporters waited in Victoria International Airports austere Arrivals foyer Saturday night for the return of the local human rights hero. Strains of sixties protest anthem, 'We Shall Not be Overcome' greeted befuddled fellow passengers emerging the domestic flight from Toronto delivering Kevin Neish home from a six-day ordeal that saw him in the middle of the now infamous raid against the Gaza freedom proponents. Acting as peace observers, essentially putting themselves between aid shipments destined for the besieged Gaza Strip, the hope is Israel would not dare harming the more than 700 internationals taking part in the six boat flotilla, and allow the foods, medical equipment, and building materials into the isolated enclave. Israel bombed the Gaza Strip for 22 days over Christmas 2008 and into January, and since has policed strictly a broad embargo against Gaza that was deemed by United Nations' rapporteur Richard Goldstone "collective punishment." That designation makes what Israel is doing in Gaza a crime under international law. For its part, Israel claims its "self-defense" is paramount and justifies the siege and its enforcement.

Ape Goes to the Victoria Free Gaza Flotilla Vigil June 5, 2010

Date 2010-06-06

Between 250 and 300 Victorians came out to pay respects to the nine confirmed peace activists killed this week aboard the Mavi Marmara, the Turkish flagged Free Gaza Flotilla vessel attacked by Israel's navy. It was especially poignant to the people attending, many of whom are personally acquainted with Kevin Neish, a human rights proponent on the Marmara at the time of the attack.

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Diana Beresford-Kroeger, Jon Elmer, Janine Bandcroft May 31, 2010

Date 2010-06-01

Diana Beresford-Kroeger a botanist, medical biochemist, and expert on the medicinal, environmental, and nutritional properties of trees. She is also the author of 'Arboretum America,' 'A Garden for Life,' and her latest is 'The Global Forest.' Diana Beresford-Kroeger in the first half. Over the weekend, the Free Gaza Flotilla attempted again to penetrate the illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military. Several attempts to get aid into Gaza by sea have been made over the last two years, but all were violently intercepted. This time, nine ships began the odyssey, but it seems none have made it through. Victoria-based human rights activist Kevin Neish was on board one of the ships, and we had arranged to discuss events live as they unfold, but as of writing all contact has been lost. Jon Elmer is a Canadian journalist and photo-journalist based in Bethlehem. Jon Elmer and the fate of the Free Gaza Flotilla in the second half. And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to keep us apprised of newz from Victoria streets. But first, Diana Beresford-Kroeger and a human need to get back to the forest.
