History instructor and award-winning author, Larry Hannant discovered the nearly forgotten manuscript for 'Champagne and Meatballs: Adventures of a Canadian Communist,' a compendium of journalist Bert Whyte's articles, letters, and remembrances over the most politically turbulent decades of the 20th Century, bringing to light a unique angle on a period of this country's history that resonates with an eerily familiar ring today.

Jewish identity is tied up with some of the most difficult and contentious issues of today. The purpose in this book is to open many of these issues up for discussion. Since Israel defines itself openly as the ‘Jewish State’, we should ask what the notions of ’Judaism’, ‘Jewishness’, ‘Jewish culture’ and ‘Jewish ideology’ stand for. Gilad examines the tribal aspects embedded in Jewish secular discourse, both Zionist and anti Zionist; the ‘holocaust religion’; the meaning of ‘history’ and ‘time’ within the Jewish political discourse; the anti-Gentile ideologies entangled within different forms of secular Jewish political discourse and even within the Jewish left. Gilad Atzmon is known for his unsparing criticism of the policies of his former home-country, Israel and the complicity in those policies of his ex-compatriots and their supporters within the Sayanim community of diaspora Jews. He has been assailed from all sides for his uncompromising determination to speak out for human rights denied the occupied Palestinian people, remaining one of the most thoughtful and ardent proponents of justice for the victims of Israel, while his writing and lectures serve as clarion for a more humane world.

Phil Nauta is an organic gardener, educator, entrepreneur, and author. He was a seminal instructor with Gaia College here in Victoria, and is a past director with The Society for Organic Urban Land Care, or SOUL. While in town, he also ran an organic landscaping business and organic fertilizer retail business, saying he is "compelled to write and teach other gardeners about organic methods." He does that now through his SmilingGardener website, and with his new book, 'The Holistic Gardening Handbook.'

He's spent the last several years campaigning to put an end to the Atlantic Salmon fish farming enterprises widely believed to be behind the disappearance of wild Pacific Salmon on the coast.

Gilad Atzmon is an accomplished jazz and pop musician, whose music has been internationally recognized, earning him among other honours, the BBC album of the year for his release, 'Exile.' His latest album is, 'In Loving Memory of America.’ Gilad is also a writer of fiction, and a political and philosophical essayist. His novels, 'Guide to the Perplexed' and 'My One And Only Love' have been translated into 24 languages. Atzmon is an ex-patriot Israeli, and veteran IDF soldier, whose writing about the ongoing occupation of Palestine, and the nature of the forces behind that occupation has earned him both praise and condemnation.
