Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Linda Taffs, Katherine Hughes, Joshua Blakeney, Janine Bandcroft Oct. 17, 2011

Date 2011-10-18

This week: How can we describe to the ages the circumstance, wherein a good man, a humble man, a medical man, can be sent headlong into the maw of America's prison system, now internationally recognized for its systemic sadism, for the crime of aiding the sick, hungry, and dispossessed? But just so is the case of Dr. Rafil Dhafir, condemned to a life of purposefully inflicted pain and privation, with little hope of deliverance. Katherine Hughes is an artist/potter who attended most every day of Rafil Dhafir's three and a half month trial, bearing witness to the abrogation of justice by lawyers, witnesses, and the judges of his case. She has, in the long interim since his 2003 kangaroo court trial worked diligently to educate the public about Dr. Dhafir's fate. And; Linda Taffs is a Victoria-based peace and justice activist. She is a founding member of the Campaign to End the Sanctions Against the People of Iraq, and traveled to that country with the Canadian Peace Team in the lead up to what became 'Operation Iraqi Liberation.' Katherine Hughes and Linda Taffs in the first half. And; just how did we get here, and what underpins the continuance of what was originally sold to us as the Global War on Terror, or GWOT? Joshua Blakeney is a Calgary-based freelance journalist and activist. Blakeney's research became national news after being awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship to study the Origins of the Global War on Terror. Joshua Blakeney in the second half. And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with some of the goings on going on on our city's streets over the past tumultuous week, and to brief us on the Vancouver observation of the weekend's continent-wide demonstrations for systemic change. But first, Katherine Hughes and Linda Taffs on the cause and costs of defending humanity in modern day America. Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca. He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, http://www.pacificfreepress.com. Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Jon Elmer, Susan Lindauer, Janine Bandcroft Dec. 6, 2010

Date 2010-12-07

This week on GR: Jon Elmer is a Bethlehem-based Canadian photo-journalist who has lived in and reported from Palestine for more than a decade. He writes for the Inter Press Service and al Jazeera among others, and can be found on the internet at JonElmer.com. Jon is also the singlemost often appearing guest on Gorilla Radio, and is our main source for legitimate news from Occupied Palsestine and Israel. Jon Elmer in the first half. And; Susan Lindauer was an American intelligence asset from 1996 right up until the day "that changed everything." In the days and weeks following 9/11, she witnessed her government and the press excoriate the "intelligence community" for its failure to protect the homeland, and ridicule hers and her colleague's service to the nation. Outraged, she demanded her side of the story be told, applying to be included in Congressional Hearings, only to find herself to be the first non-Arab American arrested and imprisoned under the newly-enacted PATRIOT Act. Susan Lindauer is out now, and as determined as ever that her story be told. She is the author of the book, 'Extreme Prejudice: The Terrifying Story of the Patriot Act and the Cover Ups of 9/11 and Iraq.' Susan Lindauer in the second half. And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with newz from the streets of Victoria and beyond. Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca. He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com. Check out the GR blog at: http://GorillaRadioBlog.blogspot.com
