Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Ken Stone November 26, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s home edition recorded on this date, November 26th, 2020.

Eighteen years ago this month, a group of Hamiltonians joined together in efforts to avert a calamitous war. The Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War were not alone in that; in cities around the World tens of thousands fretted and strategized and organized, trying to stand between the United States and the object of its next “war this time”, Iraq.

That collective effort to belay the disaster failed, but the Coalition has continued working to bring to a halt the “generational wars” George W. Bush promised following the 2001 attacks on New York City and the Pentagon.

Ken Stone is a long-time antiwar activist, serving as an executive member of both the Syria Solidarity Movement and Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War. In 2016 Ken participated in the Second International Tour of Peace to Syria, sending back home his column, Dispatch from Syria. Those dispatches are now collected in the book, ‘Defiant Syria: Dispatches from the Second International Tour of Peace to Syria’.

Today, Ken Stone and searching still for a Canadian route to peace.

Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Thursday between 11-Noon Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, and on the internet at: https://cfuv.ca. Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, John Philpot November 23, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s home edition, recorded on this date, November 23rd, 2020.

She has been living ever since under house arrest in one of her Vancouver properties as the courts there hear arguments for her extradition to the United States for fraud.

China derides the charges, saying they’re tantamount to industrial blackmail. Ottawa’s insistence the case is legitimate and must be given the opportunity to go through the system has soured relations with China, and damaged Canada’s reputation as both an independent, and “rule of law” nation.

John Philpot is a Montreal-based defence attorney in International Criminal Law. Long active in Palestinian and African support organisations, and the peace movement, Philpot is too a distinguished panel member of the Cross-Canada Campaign to Free Meng Wanzhou.

The panel’s virtual events, sponsored by the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute, the Canadian Peace Congress, Just Peace Advocates, the Hamilton Coalition To Stop The War, and World BEYOND War, are a response to what it says is Meng Wanzhou’s “unjust incarceration by the Trudeau government at the request of the Trump Administration.

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Dr. Jeffrey Smith November 16, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s home edition, recorded on this date November 16th, 2020.

Saturday, the uneasy truce between Morocco and the Saharawi people of Western Sahara cracked. It started with a road blocked by a peaceful protest, but the heavy-handed response by occupying Moroccan forces quickly escalated into what the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic government-in-exile says is the, “resumption of armed struggle in defense of the legitimate rights of our people.

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, David Swanson, Ron Ridenour, Janine Bandcroft November 12, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s home edition, recorded live-to-tape via Skype on this date, November 10th, 2020.

It’s that week again, when the citizenry is bidden to bow in remembrance to sacrifices made at the various altars to empire and nationalism of this terrible last century of slaughter. For some that observation is a sombre duty, for others an opportunity to propagandize a pyramidal power construct relegating those at its base to suffer penury, servitude, systemic oppression, and to be periodically pitched into the maw of mechanized warfare.

This vicious cycle may seem eternal, even the natural order of things for we who have no living experience of Peace. But that is the lie of our time, and the abomination we’re called to celebrate on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of this eleventh month.

David Swanson is an author, activist, journalist, and broadcaster. He’s the executive director of World BEYOND War, campaign coordinator for RootsAction.org, and a past Nobel Peace Prize Nominee whose book titles include: ‘War Is A Lie’, ‘When the World Outlawed War’, and ‘Leaving WWII Behind’. David blogs at DavidSwanson.org and WarIsACrime.org, and he’s the host of Talk Nation Radio.

David Swanson in the first half.

And; while last week’s election carnival is yet to come to a head, what happens over the months following is anyone’s guess; there’s less uncertainty for the Julian Assange extradition hearings in London’s Old Bailey where presiding magistrate, Vanessa Baraitser adjourned proceedings saying, “One way or another, my decision is likely to go after the US elections.

The hearing will resume January 4th, and Baraitser will assuredly rule as bidden to by whomever will reside on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Ron Ridenour is a journalist, author, editor, and peace and social justice activist. Some of Ridenour’s many book titles include: ‘The Russian Peace Threat: Pentagon on Alert’, ‘Cuba: Revolution in Action’, ‘Backfire: The CIA’s Biggest Burn’, and his latest, still in progress, ‘Winding Brook Stories’. Ron’s articles feature at numerous online sites, including on This Can’t Be Happening.net, where his ‘A Horror Story in Two Parts: Will England Send Assange-the-Messenger to America’s Dungeons?’ and ‘A Travesty of Justice: UK Caters to the US Government’s Desire to Crush Assange’ appear.

Ron Ridenour and coming out of the trenches for Julian Assange and WikiLeaks in the second half.

Gorilla Radio 2020 Election Post Mortem Special with Chris Cook and Dave Lindorff November 5, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s home edition Election 2020 Aftermath Special, recorded live-to-tape via Skype on this date, November 5th, 2020.

Most will be aware the US elections were and are a razor-thin affair, with vote counting continuing, despite the best efforts of one side of the contest. Why you may ask would anyone NOT want votes counted? Likely the same reason that party would want to limit the numbers of those eligible to vote in the first place; because they fear the popular political will. Why else?

Dave Lindorff is an award-winning journalist, author, and founding member of the media collective, ThisCantBeHappening.net. Lindorff’s book titles include, ‘The Case for Impeachment: Legal Arguments for Removing President George W. Bush from Office’ and ‘This Can’t Be Happening! Resisting the Disintegration of American Democracy.’ Dave lives just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the very place some believe could decide the next president, (if the Supreme Court doesn’t get there first!) and he’s following the situation there.

Today, Dave Lindorff and can this be happening, again?!

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s home edition recorded live-to-tape via Skype on this date, October 30th, 2020.

Monday, October 26th Philadelphia citizen, Walter Wallace Jr. was shot dead by police. His killing was caught on camera and has sparked demonstrations of both the peaceful and violent kind. Wallace was a black man, suffering mental problems. He was known to police, and his family had specifically asked for medical assistance WITHOUT police. Both the shooting and demonstrations have become a part of the political debate, as America nears the November 3rd presidential election.

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Conn Hallinan, John Ross, Janine Bandcroft October 30, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s home edition, recorded “live-to-tape” via Skype from our home-based … studios on this date, October 27th, 2020.

An added caveat for today’s Friday edition; I recorded this program in 2011, just weeks before the murder of Libyan revolutionary and long-time national leader, Muammar Gaddafi. Colonel Gaddafi’s Libya was attacked by NATO forces nine years ago, and he murdered by NATO-supported fighters; cornered, mobbed, and stabbed to death in the most gruesome fashion. More vile though than the facts of Gaddafi’s slaughter is the fate of his country since. Once the richest country in Africa, benefactor to it’s neighbours and dedicated to Pan-Africanism, Libya is today a wrecked and war-torn disaster.

Conn Hallinan is an American educator and independent journalist. Hallinan is a columnist at Foreign Policy in Focus, and is author of the news analysis site, ‘Dispatches from the Edge, where he bravely opposed the accepted wisdom of the time, writing ‘Juan Cole: Ten Myths About Libya?’ challenging the University of Michigan professor’s support for NATO’s intervention in Libya.

Conn Hallinan and getting behind the myths of the destruction of the Gaddafi regime in the first half.

And; in January of 2011 the legendary journalist and author, John Ross died in Mexico.

Remembering John Ross, rebel to the roots in the second half.

And; CFUV Radio broadcaster and host of Plant Powered Radio, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour with the Left Coast Events Bulletin of some of the good things to be gotten up to in and around our town, and virtually, for the coming week. But first, Conn Hallinan and a Libyan regime change rejoinder.

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Kirsten Francescone, Dan Kovalik, Janine Bandcroft October 29, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s Home Edition, recorded live-to-tape via Skype on this date, October 26th, 2020.

There is jubilation in Bolivia, as the people’s representatives are again in power following the removal by force of arms last year of president Evo Morales’ MAS party. The party’s new iteration, under the leadership of Luis Arces, won an even larger majority than last time, sweeping away the coup perpetrators. Canada was among the first countries in 2019 to confer legitimacy on the coup, and following its lead Canada-registered mining company Orvana Minerals used the opportunity the extreme-right political shift presented to undo labour agreements already signed and sack its unionized workers.

Kirsten Francescone is the Latin America Program Coordinator at MiningWatch Canada. Kirsten lived and worked in Bolivia for five years prior to commencing her PhD in Anthropology and Political Economy at Carleton University.

Kirsten Francescone in the first half.

And; while the landslide election victory of Evo Morales’ MAS party was and is cause for elation throughout Bolivia and the Americas for those long-suffering under the heel of El Norte, Luis Arces’ supporters can be forgiven if their celebrations are tempered with caution, considering what happened the last time it won elections there.

Dan Kovalik is a lawyer, educator, labour, peace, and justice activist, democracy defender, journalist and author. He’s also a recipient of the David W. Mills Mentoring Fellowship from Stanford Law School, a frequent lecturer, oft sought television and radio political commentator, and his articles appear online at the Huffington Post and Counterpunch, among other places. His latest book is, ‘No More War: How the West Violates International Law by Using ‘Humanitarian’ Intervention to Advance Economic and Strategic Interests‘.

Dan Kovalik and Bolivia’s second chance in the second half.

And; CFUV Radio broadcaster and host of Plant Powered Radio, Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour with the Left Coast Events Bulletin of some of the good things to be gotten up to in and around our town in the coming week.

But first, Kirsten Francescone and following the foreign corporate/government power nexus in Bolivia.
