We gather on Earth Day to remind BC’s Attorney General to honour Treaty 8, respect Indigenous law and to enforce the Crown’s duty to protect the Peace River Valley from settler colonial violence and treaty violations. As the Blueberry River First Nation court case on cumulative impacts begins on April 23, and the West Moberly and Prophet River First Nations legal battle to seek an injunction to stop the Site C dam happens in July, we are holding BC accountable to walk its talk of reconciliation.

FightC is a non-partisan, non-violent grassroots community group committed to stopping the Site C dam in solidarity with the Treaty 8 First Nations. All who love and respect the Peace are welcome to join us.

We acknowledge that this free assembly takes place on the Unceded Territory of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish Nations.

Directly Affected: Earth Day Screening w/Director Q&A at the Rio
april 22nd
Sunday at 16:15–18:00
6 days from now · 5–13° Partly cloudy
The Rio Theatre <https://www.facebook.com/TheRioTheatre/>
1660 East Broadway, Vancouver, British Columbia V5N 1W1
On Sunday, April 22 – Earth Day – join us at the Rio Theatre for a screening of director Zack Embree’s compelling new documentary DIRECTLY AFFECTED, which takes an in-depth look at the issues surrounding the Kinder Morgan pipeline. Zack will be in attendance and will participate in a post-screening Q&A, as will some other special guests (more info coming soon). Minors welcome and permitted in the balcony.

5 years ago, Vancouver filmmaker Zack Embree set out on a mission: to understand the impacts of the Kinder Morgan pipeline on local communities and give a voice back to those who had been ignored by the National Energy Board process.

He interviewed residents affected by the 2007 inlet drive spill, and covered the protests on Burnaby Mountain – and journeyed to First Nations communities such as Fort Mackay, Alberta to witness the impacts of fossil fuel extraction, to New Brunswick where many of the energy workers are from, as well as to France for the Paris Climate talks.

What he found was a growing storm of opposition from all walks of life and confusion over Prime Minister Trudeau’s climate plan – how to achieve it while building a major oil pipeline?

Produced with the support of TELUS STORYHIVE, LUSH Cosmetics, Vancity Office of Community Engagement, INDIEGOGO crowd-funders.

Sunday, April 22
Doors 3:45 pm | Movie 4:15 pm

Advance tickets $10 | $12 at the door

*Minors welcome in the balcony! Must be 19+ w/ID for bar service and main floor seating.
*Rio Theatre Groupons and passes OK! Please redeem at the door.

“Beautifully shot, engaging, and effective…” (The Georgia Straight)

“…the heart of this film is a desire to give a voice to the little guy…” (The Vancouver Sun)

“It’s 75 minutes of bristling advocacy journalism, thoroughly researched and professionally presented…” (The National Observer)

DIRECTLY AFFECTED (Zack Embree, 2018 / 78 mins / PG) Houston-based Kinder Morgan is building an oil pipeline across British Columbia that will transport close to 1 million barrels a day of carbon intensive Alberta oil, threatening drinking water, endangered whales and our climate.
